Let’s start off with the cliché that in life, things don’t always go the way we planned. I know everybody would agree on that thought. We’ve all probably experienced problems at work, not getting the promotion we’ve been expecting, big losses in the company, or your marriage is falling apart.
But, life won't stop there! We know we've gotta go on and do what we gotta do. If you're the type of person who doesn't know when to quit despite everything is going wrong around you, then this blog is for you.
It's Temporary
The great thing in life is that these obstacles are temporary. The moment you decide that you will accept these obstacles as a challenge to mold you into a better person, you are on the right track! Let us then pause for a while and use these steps that IcanYoucan has shared for us to know what to do when things go wrong.
Remember, pain is temporary.
A quote by Lance Armstrong said, “Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever”. Dwelling on the pain only puts us in a rut. My advice: move on.
Take a break!
We are not machines. We need to rest physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It usually doesn’t do us any good to push ourselves trying to straighten things out. Sometimes, our minds shut down and a short break is all it needs to gain fresh insights and new ideas. Go on a vacation, take your wife on a date, go to church, or just take a nap!
Reflect on your ultimate goals
A mentor once said, “Always remember your ‘why’”. You are now facing this reality because you had a plan. You had a dream, a goal you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Every obstacle on your way brings you one more step closer to your ultimate goal.
Focus on solutions
“If something bothers you, focus on the solution or the desired outcome, not the part that has you spinning out in the middle of the night”, said the author Jen Sincero. Of course, we need to first focus on the problem. But, we don’t need to stop there. After the problem is determined, start writing down all the possible solutions.
Accept the facts
Sometimes these facts could be cruel, it may be that the plan we’re following isn’t effective anymore, or we need to quit work and find greener pastures. But accepting these facts will help us move on and get our feet back on track.
Lastly, Change your attitude and be positive!
Can a positive attitude actually help? Big YES to that! This is how Jennifer Hyman described the role of a positive attitude in life: “I think that life is difficult. People have challenges. Family members get sick, people get older, you don't always get the job or the promotion that you want. You have conflicts in your life. And really, life is about your resilience and your ability to go through your life and all of the ups and downs with a positive attitude.”
Things in life goes wrong for a reason. I’d like to think that the reason is that life wants us to grow. If we see it that way, we are well on our way to achieving our goals.
